Colin Dussault's Blues Project
Colinized! (Erica)
Published on November 14, 2007
There are local blues crews that have been around longer than Dussault's Blues Project. Some may even do it better. But nobody does it more than Dussault, who averages 300-plus shows a year. With that many gigs, there's not much time to write new material. All the songs on Colinized! are covers, but the sextet boasts so much musical muscle, it manages to wrestle tunes away from the artists who made them famous. Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" becomes a full-throttle gospel rave-up, and Van Morrison's "And It Stoned Me" turns into a trippy reggae skank, complete with a tipsy guitar solo straight out of a Grateful Dead bootleg.
